Meeting topic: Emerging Automotive Trends: Electric Vehicles in the United States and China
The speaker will be Dr. John Paul Helveston of the Institute for Sustainable Energy at Boston University.
In the United States, the electric vehicle industry has focused on converting “conventional” automobiles, with heavy and costly steel chassis--from gasoline to electric motors. But Dr. Helveston has discovered that China is developing a thriving new industry in Low Speed Electric Vehicles–the closest equivalents in the United States are “street legal golf carts.” A fraction of the cost, and highly energy-efficient. Perfect for short commutes, say from Brookline to Boston or Cambridge.
This is a very exciting development. Very relevant to residents of Brookline who are concerned about their carbon and fossil-fuel burden.
Learn all about it on Monday December 12, at 7 pm at Brookline Town Hall, first floor.
